3.7 Percent inflation recorded in Armenia in August 2008, compared with December 2007

National Statistical Service of Armenia says 3.7 percent inflation
was recorded in Armenia in August 2008, compared with December 2007. The
report says prices went 0.7% down in August, compared with July.
Armenia’s consumer market became 11.5% more expensive (compared with
August 2007). Prices for foodstuff, spirits and tobacco went 1.5% down
and non-food and services prices climbed 0.4 and 0.1%. Index of consumer
prices (including foodstuff, alcohols and tobacco – 100.5%) was 103.7%
in August, compared with early 2008.
Non-food prices rose 5.3 and
services 9.1%. Average monthly growth of consumer prices was 0.5% in
2008 against 0.1 percent reduction in 2007. Consumer price index was
111.5% in August 2008, compared with the same month a year earlier.
Foodstuff, spirits and tobacco prices leapt 12.9%, non-food prices rose
7.8% and services became 11% more expensive.
Consumer prices index
was 109.5% in Jan/Aug 2008, compared with the same period of the
previous year. Food, non-food and services prices went 11.4%, 5.4% and
8.1% up.
According to the statistical report, consumer goods became
1.4 to 0.3 percent cheaper in al the cities under review in August 2008,
compared with July. In Yeghegnadzor and Martuni price reduction was
greater than in other cities. In Yerevan, prices slipped 0.7 percent.
Four-percent (±1.5%) inflation is planned to be recorded in Armenia later this year. M.V.-0---
