Economic activity index in 2011 grows by 2.4 percent

The economic activity index in 2011 November in Armenia was 2.4% higher from a year before, the National Statistical Service of Armenia told ARKA. It said compared with October last year the figure declined by 7.3%. The economic activity index in January-November was 5.5% higher year-on-year, it said.

According to statistics, the construction sector saw a 13.3% contraction in November if compared to 2010 November, dropping to 59.1 billion drams, but compared to 2011 October it was 28.8% higher.

Industrial output was said to have grown by 18.8% in November 2011 compared to the same period in 2010 to 93.9 billion drams, having increased in November by 4.1% from 2011 October.

In 2011 November agriculture grew by 6.2% year-on-year amounting to about 45.3 billion drams. But compared with October 2011 this figure fell by 62.9%.

Foreign trade in 2011 November grew by 10.2% to 192.8 billion drams ($ 504.5 million). Compared with October, the figure rose by 0.1%.

Also in November 2011, the volume of services increased by 4.4% compared with November 2010, exceeding 74.2 billion drams. Compared with the previous month it had dropped by 6.8%.

The government forecast for GDP growth in 2011 is 4.6%. ($1-385.77 drams).  -0-
